And the shortlist has been announced! This year’s very diverse shortlist includes authors from 5 different countries ranging in age from the youngest ever shortlistee, 27 year old Eleanor Catton from New Zealand, to Jim Crace, who is 67. Eleanor’s hefty tome, The Luminaries, is 832 pages long, while Colm Toibin’s The Testament of Mary has only 101 pages. All the books are written in very different styles, and set in very different times; from biblical times in the Middle East, rural England in the 1700s, 18th century gold-rush New Zealand, 1960s India to modern-day Zimbabwe and Tokyo. So no pinning this shortlist down!
