Miles Franklin Award 2013

I’ve just realised that I’ve posted the winner of the Stella and the shortlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction without having mentioned the longlist for the 2013 Miles Franklin, which was announced in March – notable because of it’s dominance by female writers. In fact, 8 out of the 10 longlisted titles were written by women, the highest number ever. The other interesting thing about the list is that 5 out of the 10 novels are by first-time novelists. So here is that very interesting list!:

Romy Ash – Floundering
Lily Brett – Lola Bensky
Brian Castro – Street to Street
Michelle de Kretser – Questions of Travel
Annah Faulkner – The Beloved
Tom Keneally – The Daughters of Mars
Drusilla Modjeska – The Mountain
M.L.Stedman – The Light Between Oceans
Carrie Tiffany – Mateship with Birds
Jacqueline Wright – Red Dirt Talking
