Ron Barassi: Legend

Ron Barassi has been around forever it seems.  He is the old school type of footballer, who was Captain and Coach of his team at the same time, a thing that would be impossible in today’s professional game.  He was also the first player who changed teams, which at the time was just not how things were done. In those days, once you were in a team, you were there for life, again, so different from the way the game is played and run these days.  Since retiring from the game Ron Barassi has become something of an elder statesman, whose opinion is sought of topics unrelated to football. He was walked the Kokoda Track and was the subject of an episode of the SBS series Who do you think you are? earlier this year, which revealed a lot about the hardships of his early life.  I’m sure there are lots of his fans out there who will enjoy reading about great man of Australian Rules Football.
