Matt Skinner’s Wine Guide 2011

2011 may seem like a while away but in wine it pays to plan ahead.

This user friendly guide is the younger, simpler, cheaper brother of James Halliday’s annual tome. Matt Skinner understands what people want to know about wine and this book is logically broken up into chapters Fizz, White, Pink, Red and Sweet. At the beginning he’s given a couple of highlights (including best bargain, $10 anyone?!) and, speaking of price, all wines include the recommended retail price. There’s also a guide to the different red and white varietals to take you beyond good ol’ Sav Blanc  and Cab Sav all the way to Camenere, Verdicchio and Guwurtztraminer. Great for all from the seasoned to the tentative drinkers there are good Aussie and international recommendations for every palate and price point in this new, easier-to-read style. PB, $24.95.
