Although the cover may present as a stereotypical coming over age novel, Good Oil is so much more than that.
It is the story of friendship between 15 year old Amelia and 21 year old Chris who both work at a Safeway in Sydney. The heartwarming sincerity and awkwardness of Amelia’s crush on the charming Chris and the myriad of intriguing characters make this a fabulous read.
Told from the point of view of both Amelia and Chris, it allows the reader to really connect and gain insight and perspective on all situations they are faced with.
Older readers will be transported back to the nostalgia of the days of their first crush and younger readers will no doubt feel an immediate companionship with the novel.
This is Laura Buzo’s first book and hopefully we can look forward to many more from this up and coming Australian author!
