Weird things have been happening to Percy Jackson ever since he can remember – trouble just seems to follow him wherever he goes. He has attended six schools in as many years and just as he is finally settling in to the Yancy Academy, a boarding school for troubled kids (he even sort of likes his Latin class), Percy accidentally vaporises his maths teacher with a magical bronze sword. Things then go from weird to totally bizarre as everyone, even is best friend Grover, pretends nothing strange is happening, even though monsters that shouldn’t exist keep popping up left, right and centre. When Percy’s mum finds out exactly what has been happening, she sends him to Camp Half-Blood, where Percy finally starts to understand who he really is – half boy, half god. He is the son of Poseidon, God of the Sea, and his father might just need his help. Percy must go on a quest, a quest to solve the mystery of the lightning thief and to stop a war between the gods, a war that could tear the world apart.
Rick Riordan’s, Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief (PB $16.95) is a fantastic adventure with a serious dose of Greek mythology mixed in. With the movie due to be released in Australia in February (check out the trailer below), this series is very much on the radar and luckily it more than lives up to the hype.
The other adventures in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, Percy Jackson & the Sea of Monsters, Percy Jackson & the Titan’s Curse, and Percy Jackson & the Battle of the Labyrinth are also now available.
