Solar by Ian McEwan

If you just read the title of the post, and got all excited about a new Ian McEwan, I’m sorry to have to tell you that it isn’t being published until March this year.   One of the perks of running a bookshop is that we know about new titles coming, and often get an advance reading copy of the book, and when my Random House rep. sent me a copy of the new McEwan I was very excited.  He’s one of my favourite authors, and although I don’t love all his books, (Birdsong,   I’m just not as mad about it  as the rest of the planet seems to be) I’m always keen to read any new books by him.  His new book is called Solar and is about a scientist who is no longer at the top of his game.   His fifth marriage is in trouble,  but this time not because of his infidelity,  but because of his wife’s affair.   Our ‘hero’ just can’t cope with it at all, and so is about to try and redeem himself.  I’m not very far in yet,  but I have a good feeling about it.   Sorry to tantalise ,  but put it in your diary for mid March.   $32.95  Heather
